DT - Cam toy frames

All the children in 5L have designed their cam toy pictures using ICT. They have each cut their lengths of wood for the frame (2 x 20cm lengths and 3 x 14cm lengths) and at the end of the lesson all fingers were in tact (Health and Safety being explored before the lesson of course!). The children used glue guns to join the wooden lengths and every one feels proud of completing stage 3 of the project. Only 5 stages left to go.

Ain't no sunshine

Plenty of smiling faces but no sunshine. Year 5 have been atempting to measure shadows as part of their topic work but the recent cloudy weather has meant we will have to wait for a lovely day. It could be a long wait!

Big plum tomatoes

Here you can see Mr K with a bumper crop of plum tomatoes - great for making soups and pasta sauce.
We have only had one large pumpkin this year but we have managed to collect lots of our sunflower seeds and othe seeds from the flowers.
We hope to use the sunflower seeds to feed the birds.
Harvest assembly coming soon in October.

Move Over Einstein!

Move over Einstein - Year 6 are investigating in science!

In science this week, Year Six have been setting their own investigation questions to find out about evaporation.

Here are some of our questions:

Does a fan speed up the rate of evaporation?

Do puddles with a larger surface area evaporate faster or slower than puddles with a smaller surface area?

Do deep puddles dry quicker than shallow ones?

Does heat speed up the rate of evaporation?

We had to plan how we would conduct our investigations to make sure that our tests were fair. One group had to take particular care to use safety goggles and a sand tray because they were using matches and candles.

We have gathered our results and next lesson we are going to analyse them and draw conclusions.

We will keep you posted about what we have found out!
