If music be the food of love, play on - we're all starving !!

The Brodowski Quartet.

Year 4 & 5 pupils had the privilege of listening to, and learning about, classical music from around the world - played to them by the Brodowski Quartet.
The quartet comprised 2 violins played by David and Catrin, a viola played by Felix and a cello played by Vanessa.

The children learnt how the stringed instruments could be played in different ways including, bowing, plucking and how the conductor can control the volume and speed of a piece.

All children participated as an audience and some even had the opportunity of conducting - even Mrs Thorndike took centre stage !

This was a great way of introducing some beautiful classical pieces to the children, including the Dance of the Merlitons from the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky.

Flybe.com Trophy

We competed in the finals at St. Mary's in Southampton on Sunday 20th April.

We had high hopes after winning our tournament and started off like a red whirlwind, beating the Basingstoke tournament winners 5 - 0, in our opening game.

We then lost to Oak Meadow 1 - 3 and beat Blackfield 2 - 1, to top our league group.

In the quarter finals, we drew with Abbotswood 1 - 1, but lost on corner count, which was a shame.

We're disappointed, but a little wiser !

Squad members were :

Cameron Lyth (Capt.)
Liam Hayes
Jordan Devanney
Hillary Ndagurwa
Warren Vass
Charlie Rogers
Aaron Robertson
Shaun Frowen

Veni, vidi, vici

Year Three finished the Spring term with a Roman Day. They came to school all dressed as Romans following this half term's unit of work....

They saw each others menacing looks and took part in Roman battles. After they conquered it was time for something to eat...
It's hungry work being a Roman!

Governor's Trophy

The winner of the Spring Term Governor's Trophy was announced in today's end of term assembly.

Well done to Charlotte in 6E for winning. Charlotte has been recognised for her hard work in all subjects in school, the fantastic effort she always puts into her work, her great ability to perform on stage and her mature and kind attidude to work. Well done Charlotte.

Churches Together Assembly & Glockenspiel Choir

The Churches Together representatives WOWed the children this morning with some magic. They used visual aids and magic to help put their point across.

At the end of assembly, the Glockenspiel & Xylophone Choir gave us a rendition of Hot Cross Buns. They hadn't been practising very long but all came together as a team and showed us what can be achived in a short space of time. WELL DONE !
