Fielding Fun!

Year 6 finished this week with outdoor P.E, playing rounders in 6L and kwik-cricket in 6J. All the children were able to have a go at fielding and batting to practice their skills.

Very energetic games left some feeling too tired to carry on!
But they all still managed to find a little energy for the cooling down activity.
Well done Year 6 for showing fantastic sportsmanship.

Bunny-tastic in year 5E

Piravija, Katie and Adam have scooped prizes in the school Easter Eggsibition this year.

Katie and Piravija came first and second respectively in their "Where's the bunny?" art competition whilst Adam came third in the eggsibition itself.

The children worked really hard and showed great innovation in their designs. Here they are with their well earned prizes.

Girls are all go at Grange

Newport girls played grange Community Junior School, Farnborough yesterday and came away with a creditable draw.

With the encouragement of a good crowd, Miss Rockett and their cool coach Miss Crompton and a great ref (Mr E.!) Grange started rather tentatively and the reds were constantly pressurising the Grange goal. It wasn't long before Lili opened the scoring and it looked as if the scoring would be all one way. However the girls in red couldn't direct or control their shots well enough and good chances were lost.

Suddenly the Grange girls found a little composure and after two great breaks (and shots) from Hannah they were 2-1 up! Grange were battling for every ball .

This did not deter the reds as they competed hard to win possession but still created only a few good chances. Gemma was outstanding in defence and Leah playing her first ever game suddenly seemed to be everywhere.

There were still very few chances until Shona managed to shoot past the isolated goalie to equalise in the second half.

After this, it seemed try as hard as both teams could , they failed to cancel each other out and the ball ended in touch a lot and so the game finished as a creditable draw, 2-2. Well done girls!

Final flurry in Farnborough

Both Newport boys and girls played Grange Community Junior School, Farnborough this week in our final league fixtures of the season.

Many of the boys played their final league game for the school so the squad was large for the game. The first half proved competitive but Cameron McD put the reds ahead and then Joel added his second goal for the team and the school in the second half.

Reece finished off a fine season with a late third to cap a fine season. There were three new debutants in Ryan, Juho and Harry who all had fine games.

This season in our new league format, the boys have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 1 which is a magnificent effort.

The girls report will be on a separate blog.

Egyptian art in Year 4

This term Year 4 have been looking at Anicent Egypt.

First we made clay tiles, including Egyption hieroglyphics and pictures.

We then made a similar design on a polystrene printing tile. We had to think carefully about our design.

Finally, we used our printing tile to print our pictures on paper. We used gold paint. Some of ours printed really well, although it was a little messy
