Poets in the press !

This week some Newport Year 6 pupils began working on a project called "Bringing poetry to life" with the aim of enabling pupils to experience poetry in a dynamic way that will stimulate them in writing and performing their own work.  Collaborating with Samuel Cody College and funded by the HCC Arts and Museum service, the children will spend three mornings working with the Brighton based poet, Michael James Parker. The first session, held this week, went extremely well and even attracted the attention of the local press who visited half way through our session.
All the children had a wonderful time listening to Michael perform his poems and have already started to craft their own poems which will be performed  to the public in early July.

Samuel Cody 's poet mentors helped pupils start to create their own poems.

All smiles for the local press!

Bacon butty breakfast club-A great start to SATs week for year 6.

Year 6's topic this term is "Practise make perfect" and all the children have working incredibly hard in the run up to the KS2 SATS as seen by their folders which are bursting with completed revision papers. Unlike other schools, Newport children couldn't wait for SATs week to start not only to put into practise all that they had learnt, but also to sample the delights of a tasty bacon/egg  roll breakfast.
Mrs Angela Quinton, Newport's newly appointed chef, kindly offered to come in early to prepare breakfast for the whole of year 6. This was much appreciated by all the children and staff as it gave them an opportunity to  get together before school to calm any nerves and have a nutritious meal to start the day . " This is the best breakfast ever!" commented one pupil. (Indeed the some children were keen to sample more than one bacon roll!). A big thank you to Mrs Quinton and her team for getting this week off to a great start.

Summer has begun!

This half term, year 3 are learning all about different climates around the world! As part of our topic we will be creating a holiday video to tempt travellers to come and visit different locations. Each class is choosing their own place to study.

As well as creating our own videos, we will also be making our own music using JamStudio online as well as using microphones to record our voices. Hopefully they will be ready for you to come and look at in the End of Term exhibitions.

For our music this half term, we are learning brass!! We each have our own special mouth piece to make sure we're being hygenic. At the end of summer we will have a brass performance for you to come and watch - this is due on the 15th of July but we'll make sure of that closer to the time!
