Lights ... Camera ... Action!

On Friday, year 6 visited The Connaught and were provided with a dramatastic day! There was something for everyone ... singing, drama and dancing. The year 6 teachers were particularly impressed with everyone's behaviour (which was impeccable) and all of the children gave 100%. The day was centered around learning a song, which the children then choreographed their own dance to accompany the song. This went alongside two freeze frames that matched a poem around the theme friendship. A big thank you to the staff at Connaught who organised the whole day.

Science and RE Day

Science Day

Year 4 spent Thursday carrying out an investigation to discover whether there are more bugs at the front or back of the school. We started by classifying animals and looking at their different features. After, we went outside with white sheets to begin the experiment. In groups, we put white sheets down and shook the bushes to see what bugs fell out. This experiment will be carried out every term. We will share our findings at the end of the year.

RE Day

Having discovered where bugs like to live on Thursday, we spent Friday talking about where we live and our sacred places. We discussed what it meant for something to be 'sacred' and looked at why some Christians consider Churches to be sacred places.At the end of day we created our sacred place using any resources we wanted to show our sacred place to others. 

Basketball competition

This afternoon, years five and six played against each other using all of the skills they have learnt in their PE lessons with Premier Sports. Everyone showed a great deal of determination and sportsmanship which was lovely to see. A special mention to year five who had a lot of courage and determination! Year 6 have really mastered the idea of space (as well as creating it) which is not an easy skill to accomplish, so well done. Below are a few photos of 5B and 6J in action:

Girls Football V Wellington

On Thursday afternoon, the girls football team competed in their first league fixture against Wellington. For some of the girls it was the first opportunity to play in a football match and the experience will benefit them in future matches. After warming up, the game started and we found ourselves going behind to an early goal.

The girls battled hard and created chances to score a goal themselves. Unfortunately, just before half time Wellington scored a second goal. After a quick team talk and much needed drink the girls managed to pull a goal back, thanks to Rhea's goal. 2-1. The girls battled hard for a second goal but they couldn't quite manage it. In the dying seconds of the game, Wellington scored a third goal. The final whistle followed soon after, signalling a 3-1 defeat.

After the game the girls were happy with their performance and are looking forward to the next fixture against Newlands.

A Trip to Belle Vue

A Time to Share

This morning, children from year six traveled down to Belle Vue to share their Revolting Rhymes with the children in year 2. Having put in a lot of hard work during poetry week last week, it was clear that the children of Belle Vue really enjoyed the humorous poems that the year sixes had written and I know that some parents were also really impressed when the children took a copy of their poems home last week. Some of these can be seen on display in the year six shared area.

While we were there, we also got to hear some of the wonderful stories that the year 2 children had been working hard to produce. The stories contained very imaginative ideas and even had some suspense in them, the year six children were extremely impressed especially with the presentation of the published work.
