Year 6 Trip to Selbourne River

What a beautiful day Year 6 had on their trip to Selbourne River! Thankfully, the rain and wind cleared, allowing the children to enjoy the views of the village and river from the Hanger.

Upon arrival, the children were welcomed and split into groups. Group 1 took the long and tiring trip up the hill to experience the views of surrounding area and to create some woodland art based on rivers. The children really enjoyed building their rivers our of natural materials and were able to explain the key features using the correct geographical vocabulary.

Whilst group 1 were out walking, group 2 were down and in the river itself, getting to grips with measuring the depth and velocity, as well as searching for animals.

Obviously the children all loved their time to enjoy lunch with their friends before they swapped activities for the afternoon session.

Luckily, no children were swept away down stream, and only one fully took a dip in the river - I think he decided it was a bit cold to go swimming in the end!

Thank you to all the staff and parents who were able to accompany Year 6 on their mini adventure!

Children in Need

Year 3 had an amazing day fund raising and doing activites for Children in Need.  Throughout the day we did lots of Pudsey activities and within our own classess we did our own event in order to raise money!

In 3S we did a scavenger hunt.  We had to use clues to find different letters and once we were done, we had to rearrange the letters to figure out what they spelt (PUDSEY)!

In 3E we got play Splat the Teacher! We each got 3 wet sponges and were able to throw them at our three teachers.

In 3L we did the Ice Bucket!  We got to nominate one of our teachers to have a bucket of freezing water poured over them.

Choir of Angels

On Saturday 19th November, the newly formed Newport Junior School Choir performed a selection of Christmas carols for the Aldershot Christmas light turn on event. The children sounded like angels and were very proud to represent their school.

Great Year 6 Bake Off!

What a fantastic day! Year 6 managed to raise over £180 from the bake sale. A big thank you to parents who helped children, either through baking, or buying cakes for our sale. Without you, we would not have been able to raise this amazing amount. It was a tough choice between the showstopper finalists but these children were chosen:

  • Faith Hill and Chloe Blake in 6J
  • Jonathan Coleville in 6P
  • Brooke Hockerday in 6C

These cakes were on show in the hall so that the whole school could vote for the cake they liked the most. Overall, we ended up raising over £250 for the bake sale and the show stoppers.

In the afternoon, we counted up the money from the show stoppers and announced the winner through a 'Great British Bake Off' come back where the teachers dressed up as Mary, Paul, Mel and Sue.

Congratulations to Jonathan in 6P who was the overall winner!

year 3 Library Visit

During Poetry Week, Year 3 had the opportunity to visit Aldershot library.  The librarians were very helpful and explained how the library system worked.  Children were given library cards  and were able to choose a book to take home. The visit ended with the librarian reading a funny story about a boy who learnt to read books not to eat them.
