Year 6 Go Back in Time to Ancient Greece

Glorious Greek Day!

As part of the year 6 topic this half term, the children participated in an incredible Greek Day which included: a fun-filled drama workshop; spectacular clay modelling of mythological beasts and tasting authentic Greek food!

During the drama workshop, the children experienced what it would be like as an Athenian. As part of their role, the children took part in the Citizen's Assembly, where they had to vote on important decisions for their state. This included what to do when the Persians invaded and how to defend themselves.

In small groups, children made a range of authentic Greek food including: Greek salad, tzatziki and much more before tasting these delights.

Children also made outstanding clay models of mythological beasts, which they had previously designed. In the upcoming weeks they will paint these and these will be on display for you to view at parents evening.

Take a look at the pictures below to see the children in action.

Iron Age Day

Year 3 had an amazing Iron Age experience when Iron Age Matt came to visit. In the morning they learnt about life in the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Later they had opportunity to explore the wonderful artifacts that Iron Age Matt had brought with him as well as making a shield and a spear tip.  In the afternoon, they all undertook warrior training.  It was a really exciting day .

An Olympic Performance

6P take you back in time to Ancient Greece!

This morning, 6P put on a spectacular class assembly; showing the events of the first ever Olympic games., including: chariot racing, boxing, sprinting and the pentathlon. The class were divided into 4 city states who competed against each other to win at the games. Throughout the performance our commentators Antius and Decadus kept us up to date with all of the sporting events. Even though all states put in a great effort, Sparta excelled the most and won the first ever Olympic games!

Finally, to finish off, the class sang an inspirational song, 'I believe' by Shaun Mendes with some excellent rapping from Caitlin, Grace, Hollie, Jai, James and Nathan Njenga.

A very well done to all the class who did a brilliant performance for their last class assembly at Newport.
