Year 3 learn African Drumming!

In year 3 this term we will be learning the African Drums.

So far we have been learning different rhythms and trying to put them together to create a composition.

We have learnt to play on the Djembe (said Jem-bay) and the doundoun (said duun-duun). If you play the edge of the drum it sounds very different to if you play the middle part, we are still trying to master which bit we need to hit!

It's a dirty job.....but someone's got to do it.

Kieran aka Mr Muscles

Despite the recent inclement weather and the excessive precipitation, the Gardening Club have begun to move soil into their designated wildlife area and sow wild seeds. We hope this will attract wild birds, such as goldfinches.

Bradley and Kieran fill up. Alice does the hard work
The chaingang members er.. volunteers were Kieran, Alice (aka Miss Muscles), Ryan  Bl., Kira and Bradley .

Chance to Shine 2012

Year 5 pupils had the opportunity to play cricket with Aldershot CC coach, Roger Smith today.
We had an absolutely  fabulous time learning how to run more quickly between wickets and playing new cricket games. Nathan and Jamey were the opposing captains.

The school funds these activities  to give children the opportunity to play cricket.
Nathan makes a dash

Zac, about to give it a er, whack!

Roger Smith
Any children who are interested in playing cricket regularly out of school can attend Aldershot CC every Friday , after school, where there are a variety of age groups coaching sessions for both boys and girls .

Water sparkles like crystal: Another poem from year 5!

Water sparkles like crystal.

Water sparkles like crystal,
My special blue quilt covers the shore,
Tickles my toes,
I want more.
Mirror-like and soothing,
Reflecting the sapphire sky.
The diamonds of the sea,
Tranquil and calm.
Water sparkles like crystal.

We're potty......

.........................about poetry.

Our pupils in Year 5 have been busy collaborating and generating ideas for our  sea poetry.
Here is an example of work written by Markus and Aimee:

The sun sets like a fading candle,
Sinking into the horizon.
Shimmering like a diamond in the gentle sea breezes.
All calm and tranquil.

The sun sets like a fading candle,
Leaving a golden pathway over the gentle sea.
Orange glow,
A magnificent sight to see.

The sun sets like a fading candle.
The sea was as calm as a baby sleeping.
Footprints disappear in the sand,
Whilst the sun smiles at me.
Markus , Year 5

We will be nominating talented pupils to attend a poetry writing day soon, it's going to be a difficult task .......

The sun sparkles like a fading fire

The sun sparkles like a fading fire,
The sunlight sparkles on the waves.
The amber sun smiles upon the sea,
Sunlight glows like a lion's mane,
The sun sets like a fading fire.

Where are we?

Year 5 pupils have begun studying their Summer topic  "It's a Cliffhanger!"

Alice and Katie May studying  the OS map

Last week , we used maps to find out where we actually live in relation to the coastline and  studied our actual coastlines using Google software.
