Newport's Girls Football Team Take to the Pitch!

Although Newport does not currently have an official Girl's Football Team, several members of year 5 and 6 teamed up after school today to take part in a football match against All Saints. This game represented the first round of the standing cup and even though all of the team tried their best, we did suffer a defeat.

However all girls who took part in the game should be extremely proud of themselves as they had not played as a team before and in the 40 minutes that they were on the pitch they all made massive improvements in their football techniques and skills. 

A special mention should go to our Woman of the Match, Rhea Larner, who took two fast balls to the face but was still determined to get stuck into the game and try her best.

I would like to say a huge well done to all those who took part and thank you to the parents who braved the cold and came along to support the team. 

Butser Farm

Yesterday year three spent the day at Butser Farm, learning about Iron Age and Roman civilisations. The day was full of fun and incredibly insightful. Here are some of the activities we experienced.

The children started the day off by sitting around a fire in a replica roundhouse.

 They had a look around an authentic Roman Villa and learnt about the central heating system created by the Romans.

 Creativity was flowing when the children created their own Roman mosaic tile patterns.

 The art of jewelry making was experienced and all walked away with fabulous rings.

 The plight of the Roman warrior was understood, as all had an opportunity to hold swords and shields that would have been used by a Roman Warrior.

Chalk carving turned out to be rather tricky, but worry not, we all created our own chalk art eventually.

 All in all a fun filled an educational day was had by all.

 

Quicksticks Hockey Tournament

On Thursday 3^rd March, years 5 and 6 went to Aldershot and Farnham Hockey Club to play four matches against local schools. Although most of the children have only been playing hockey for the first time since September, they played well as a team. Despite losing three out of four of our matches, we played extremely well. We became tired and lost concentration against Weylands, St. Bernadette's and Crondall. 

However, Alex Gurung scored two amazing goals when we won against South Farnborough Junior School. A special well done to Hannah Parrott and Atekah Malik who are only in year four, but were a great asset to the team. It was extremely sad to watch Lloyd Cooke play for the last time. He has been going to Miss Cooke's training sessions since year 3 and it has been a delight to watch him grow into a talented hockey player over the years.

Evacuation!

In year four we have been studying Friend or Foe. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about World War II, experiencing an evacuation last week. This has helped them understand what it would have been like to live in Wartime London. Here are some pictures to show how much fun we had:

Well done to Kalen Kelly in 4J for winning man of the match at the weekend in football. Despite his team losing, he demonstrated determination and friendship, constantly cheering on his team. Keep it up Kalen!

Cross Country Season Hits Newport!

The Cross Country Runners from Newport take on another muddy course!

After school today, Newport's future athletes took to the field again to show off their stamina and determination in another cross country race. Although being a tricky course with most of it being up hill and very muddy, all children who took part put in 100% effort. Both boys and girls did themselves and the school proud. Well done to everyone who took part.

Year 3 Day for Change

 

Year three had an amazing day learning about our link school in Uganda. We started the day off by singing a Ugandan welcome song. Later on the children learnt traditional African drumming and dance skills, which was exhilarating yet exhausting! The children were also fortunate enough to visit our own Ugandan cafe and experience some native Ugandan food. Our final activity was traditional African art and drum making. Overall the day was great fun and insightful for all who participated.
