This week Year 6 pupils proved that they were up for a challenge- a construction one! Competing against schools from all over Surrey and Hampshire, Newport pupils had to accurately construct and build a complex building. Costings and time management played an important part in this task however super team work and effective, clear communication between all team members was the key to success. The pictures below showed the fantastic effort put in by the Newport team.
Judging was done by Chris Horsfield, from Construction Partnership in Southampton. After presenting their building and discussing the highs and lows of the event, Newport were delighted to discover that they had been awarded the prize for the most cost effective design. As the team found out from Chris, this is an important factor in contracts being awarded in the construction industry. The children also talked about their career aspirations to Chris and he was able to give them an interesting insight into this industry that impacts on so many aspects of our lives.
Many congratulations to the Newport team: Finn, Rupesh, Markus, Courtney, Lucy and not forgetting our architect of the future, Katie.
