Year 4 Video!

Check out our new Year 4 Video!

The Year 4 team have been very busy making posters this week to share some messages in a video with you. We have been really missing you all and wanted to send positive messages at a time when everyone is feeling a bit uncertain and worried.

Use this link to watch our video: Year 4 Video

Would you like to be involved in helping us to create our next video?

We would like your help to make a new video that will send positive messages to all of the children in our school!

If you would like to be involved please could you:

• Record a short video or take a photo that sends a positive message

• Make sure clips are no longer than 10 seconds

• Record and take photos in landscape

• Hold up a poster that contains a positive message you would like to share

• Send these to year4@alderwood.hants.sch.uk by Friday 8th May

Remember all sound will be taken off your video for the music to be played over the top but don’t worry this will be done by the Year 4 team in editing!

We are very excited to see your messages!

Take a look at this week's Wow Wall...

We look forward to seeing more fabulous work next week!

Year 4 Home- Learning

Hi Year 4!!

We hope that you have all now settled into this 'working from home' routine- it has definitely taken some getting used to for us teachers. We miss working with you in the classroom and seeing lots of happy faces walking through the door in the morning!

We hope everyone has enjoyed learning all about the Vikings as part of the home learning project given out for these 2 weeks- this is one of our favourite history topics! Remember you can find out more about them by using this fantastic website: https://www.jorvikvikingcentre.co.uk/discover-from-home/

This morning, we sent out additional Easter packs via parentmail for anyone who would like something else to get stuck into over the Easter holidays! These are additional and optional to complete alongside your Viking packs. Please note that the original pack sent out used the school font which we now realise is incredibly tricky to read on computers at home. We do apologise for this and have now changed it to a default font which should be much easier to read at home now.

Do remember you can now drop us an e-mail at year4@alderwood.hants.sch.uk. If you have any questions/queries regarding your home learning or just want to update us with how you are getting on! We would very much like to hear from you. Any photos/videos of home-school working welcome too! Your Year 4 teacher will respond to you as soon as they can.

In the meantime, we hope everyone manages to stay safe and tries to enjoy this time at home as much as possible.

The Year 4 Team

Year 4 PE

Now that our swimming lessons and Christmas production rehearsals are well and truly behind us, we have really enjoyed being able to start our gymnastics lessons here in Year 4.

So far this term, we have been introduced to the 5 main balances and a few different partner balances. Take a look at some of us in action...

In outdoor PE lessons, led by staff from the senior site, we have been developing our ball handling skills in mini invasion type games.

A big thank you to Archie in 4H who showed us some of the karate moves he has been practising outside of school this week. We were particularly impressed with how well he could do the splits!!!

Mod Roc Sculptures

Take a look at the fantastic Mod-Roc sculptures that Year 4 created last term as part of the topic 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes'.

Mod-Roc can be a really tricky (and messy!) material to work with so we are super proud of these sculptures depicting human actions.

Christmas Production

Year 4&5 have been very busy rehearsing their production 'The Little Sheperd'. The show is a modern twist on the classic nativity story. After lots of hard work, the songs are now sounding fantastic and the actions look amazing. We are so excited to share it with you all and hope it gets you ready for the festive season.

Thank you so much for providing costumes and supporting children with learning lines and lyrics. We are looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday and Friday for the sheperd extravaganza! You'd be ba-a-arking mad to miss it!

Ho Ho Ho!

Global Citizenship Day 2019

Today we had an action packed Global Citizenship Day with lots of different activities happening across the year group. We thought about our role as global citizens and found out about Uganda and some of its art and culture, in comparison to our own. As well as learning about or being introduced to our link school.

Children in Year 3 were introduced to our link school and its location in Uganda. Following this, they created their own Ugandan flag and learnt some African drumming. They also spent some time looking at African artwork and created their own using oil pastels.

In Year 4, children looked at village life before writing postcards to the Child Promotion School to tell them what life is like in Aldershot. They also took part some in African games and created their own African masks using a range of colours and patterns.

During the day year 5, created videos or PowerPoints that showed what a day was like in our school; these will then be sent to our link school. They also learnt some African dance moves before creating their own sequences. To end the day they learnt the language of Luganda and how to communicate at the Child Promotion School.

Year 6 focused on the landscape and location of Africa, recreating their own maps of Uganda that showed the key features. They spent their morning using their knowledge to create Savannah artwork either on paper or on canvases. Finally, the researched the animals that they would see if they went on safari out there and created a fact file about them.

We would like to thank all those who brought in £1 in exchange for a Ugandan themed mufti day; we managed to make £286.15 to go towards improving technology at our link school.
