Global Citizenship Day 2019

Today we had an action packed Global Citizenship Day with lots of different activities happening across the year group. We thought about our role as global citizens and found out about Uganda and some of its art and culture, in comparison to our own. As well as learning about or being introduced to our link school. 

Children in Year 3 were introduced to our link school and its location in Uganda. Following this, they created their own Ugandan flag and learnt some African drumming. They also spent some time looking at African artwork and created their own using oil pastels.

In Year 4, children looked at village life before writing postcards to the Child Promotion School to tell them what life is like in Aldershot. They also took part some in African games and created their own African masks using a range of colours and patterns.

During the day year 5, created videos or PowerPoints that showed what a day was like in our school; these will then be sent to our link school. They also learnt some African dance moves before creating their own sequences. To end the day they learnt the language of Luganda and how to communicate at the Child Promotion School.

Year 6 focused on the landscape and location of Africa, recreating their own maps of Uganda that showed the key features. They spent their morning using their knowledge to create Savannah artwork either on paper or on canvases. Finally, the researched the animals that they would see if they went on safari out there and created a fact file about them.

We would like to thank all those who brought in £1 in exchange for a Ugandan themed mufti day; we managed to make £286.15 to go towards improving technology at our link school.

Spotacular Fundraisers!

Children in Need at Alderwood Juniors 

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped the school fundraise for Children in Need. Today was a fantastic, which the children all enjoyed. 

Our fundraising started last night with year 6 holding a Big Pudsey Quiz in the school hall. Thank you to everyone who attended and struggled through some challenging questions! 

During Children in Need day, the year groups took part in lots of different activities from writing raps to making masks to Pudsey art work. As well as this, all children came to the Pudsey sale in the hall, where they could buy their own Pudsey merchandise or spend their money on tasty treats. Finally, to end our day, we had our big reveal assembly where we announced our fundraising total. 

I am very pleased and proud to announce that our total currently stands at a massive £2128.46!

A Cold and Muddy Cross Country Race

Running All the Way!

Yesterday, after school, four members of year 5 took on a rather muddy and cold cross country race. Arriving at Wavell School, the children were greeted by a typically freezing British day but this did not put the children off. After a quick warm up and discussion of the route the three boys, who were representing our school took to the course, pacing themselves well. With some stiff competition, all the boys finished in fantastic places and showed great determination when running the whole track. 

Next up was the girls, both of which again showed amazing perseverance and although the weather proved a challenge the fairly flat route was on their side and they manged to finish the race in no time. 

Well done to Ella Bento, Chloe Purvis, Taio Odmire, Alfie Ralls and Ellis Wells. I am already looking forward to the next race in March!

Fantastic Four Tackle the Cross Country Course

First Cross Country Fun Run of the Year

After school today, four children from year five headed to Samuel Cody Sports College, where a cross country race was being held. All four children who took part showed great enthusiasm from the start even though, for the majority of them, it was their first time running this distance. 

Luckily, the field was not too muddy and all the children managed to stay on their feet however they did have to tackle the harsh and cold wind while completing two laps of the course. Considering it was the first cross country race for most of them, all children paced themselves well and finished in strong positions. Well done to all children who took part and I look forward to seeing you race again after Christmas.
