The Olympic Movie Company presents....

Ron Howard, the Hollywood director of films such as  Apollo 13,  The Da Vinci Code and Parenthood, has been spending a lot of time recently in Hampshire. We aren't sure of the release date of his lastest blockbuster , Rush, filmed on location at Blackbushe airport but we do know that if he needs a team to produce a movie trailer for it Newport Year 4 pupils could do a fabulous job.
During a recent two day workshop, Year 4 pupils working in close collaboration with Year 10 pupils at Wavell School produced five movie trailers that tell the exciting true life stories of some amazing Olympians including Jim Thorpe, Mark Spitz, Teofilio Stevenson, Nadia Commaneci and Darren Campbell. The Olympic Movie Company's imaginary brief was to storyboard the Olympian's achievements highlighting the Olympic values they had demonstrated during their quest for gold.

Using green scene technology, the latest movie pro and music editing software  every group produced an impressive trailer to incredibly tight deadlines. There was just enough time for a quick bite to eat in Wavell's busy lunch hall before watching the first rushes of the trailers. A very big thank you to the wonderful Year 10 pupils and Mrs Carol Giblen Wavell's AST of ICT.

SMART board games in year 5.

Year 5 pupils returned to school this week having completed a variety of different board games connected to their e safety learning in the final week of last half term. There were some very S.M.A.R.T. imaginative ideas but it was agreed that the overall winner was Natasha who had spent a lot of time preparing her game and had included some great detail. The photos show the children explaining the rules and playing their board games.

Virtual learning - at home!

This week sees the launch of 'wizkid', the Federation's virtual learning platform. Every child will be issued with their own unique user name and password which they can use to access their work and learning resources at home, in a local library, on an Internet enabled games console ... basically anywhere where they have Internet access!

Did you enjoy a particular lesson in school? Well now you can share your learning with your parents through your 'wizkid' account. Simply log on to access learning resources such as: flipcharts, powerpoints, galleries or to contribute to chat or discussion groups set up by your teacher. Remember - there will also be an area for the school council where you can post your views and read others.

'Wizkid' will change the way we can all access out learning!

European Safer Use of the Internet Day 2010!

All over Europe this week, children will be finding out how they can keep themselves safe when using the Internet and their mobile phones. With so much new technology around to make our lives more exciting, it is important that we know how to use it safely.

Every class will be completing a sequence of lessons aimed at helping us understand E-Safety and to know what to do if we see or hear something we don't like whilst using our computers or mobile phones.

Parents are invited to join us in our learning too at a special workshop being held on Tuesday 9th February at 2:15-2:50 in the ICT suite. Mrs Lock will be there to help you get to grips with the latest technologies and help you understand how you can help keep your child safe online.

The pupils at Belle Vue will also be participating in their own E-safety week later on this term.
