Culture all relay

Today we were the final leg of the 'Culture all relay'. This event was run by Hampshire County Council to launch 'Culture all'. Culture-all is a Hampshire County Council campaign which celebrates Hampshire's diverse range of attractions, bringing together everything from museums and libraries to country parks and sport.

Various schools from across Hampshire were asked to create some 'batons' to pass onto another school. The batons were supposed to represent your area of Hampshire.

The event started in Portsmouth and travelled to the New Forest, Winchester, Andover, Basingstoke and finished here in Aldershot at Newport. Pictured below are the 'batons' from all the participating schools.

Here at Newport we created a replica of Wellington's statue, a collage depicting the Army, the Rushmoor Coat of Arms, Aldershot Town Football Club and the Alder tree. Accompanying these items was a book created to explain the relevance of each of these things to Aldershot.

The event was filmed and you will be able to watch this film shortly on the Hampshire Website, to find out more about the Culture All project , click here or to watch the video by clicking here

Year 4 along with children from St Joseph's RC Primary, Guildford, Walsh Memorial Infants, Ash and Shalford Infant School preformed a variety of songs that they have been learning in school over the past term.

The Catherdral was packed full of parents ane we enjoyed listening to various songs, some with actions!

The initative is part of a programme of the singing outreach that Lanesborough School and Guildford Catherdral were offering with the support of Surrey Arts.

Two of our children were chosen to sing on their own!

Our thanks go to our singing leader who had been working with the children this term, Judith Royle and Mrs Austin our Music Teacher at school. (She's at the back!)

Marie Curie Cancer

This month we have been raising money for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity. Y4 have been selling daffodils as part of the Great Daffodil Campaign which is run each year.

Marie Curie Nurses care for around 50 per cent of all cancer patients who die at home. They work through the night or during the day to provide care for patients in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own home. Nurses are also there for families and carers - providing practical and emotional support at what can be an exhausting time. Marie Curie Nursing is always free of charge to patients and carers.

At Newport we think this is a really worthwhile charity to support and so far we have raised over £14 by selling daffodils.

5E Class Assembly

This morning 5E held their class assembly. We were educated all about healthy eating and healthy lifestyles. Some of the pupils looked like they'd aged a little over night or eaten a few too many fatty foods...

We were also taught about all the different bones in the body and 5E sang us a song!

We learnt a lot and the children spoke about the UNIFEC Rights for the Child about our entitlement to healthy living and food. We will be raising money next week for Comic Relief to help other children across the world have access to good food and clean water so they can have a healither lifestyle like us!
