Newport sink to first defeat

A rather glum looking Reece led by example, a phenomenal display of skill and determination

On a very, very wet afternoon Newport's league ambitions went up in smoke . With 4 games played and no defeats hopes were high but within seconds of starting the game, St Joseph's casually passed the ball upfield with little resistance and concededthe opening goal in a matter of seconds.

In the constant rain and on a very damp, heavy playing surface the boys conceded goal after goal in a first half of naive defending against a very able and strong St Joseph's boys team. Just before half time they were trailing 6-1and looked a clear second best.We had never ever conceded 6 goals ~let alone in a first half!

Some wise words from Mr Millerick and some fundamental changes brought a big change. The fight back began and the reds started to crawl back the deficit with some competitive play.Little Rhys chased and harried whilst Reece led by example constantly chasing and creating chances in sheer defiance. Suddenly one goal, then another and then another saw the reds down 6-4. Chances fell to Steven and Kyle but they were unable to grasp them whilst Steven hit the crossbar with a stunning shot but it was not to be as St Joseph's finally scored near the end to seal an impressive win.
